Scout - Transer Routes, Waypoints and Tracks

Introduction:

Before you use your GPS becomes really useful you need to load Waypoints and/or Routes and/or Tracks. For Brevets we provide the file to load with all needed 'Waypoints', 'Routes' and 'Tracks'.

When you transfer Waypoints, Routes or Tracks unlike Maps the old onces will not be erased of the GPS. MapSource just keeps adding them to the GPS. If they have the same name, newer data will override older data. The GPS has limits on many Waypoints, Routes and Tracks it can hold. For this reason and to avoid clutter I would recommend to erase the old data. I personally erase it before each bicycle ride and load only what I need.

To load what you need I would recommend that you keep a personal file with Waypoints that you always need e.g. Waypoint for your house, family, friends or work. Then perform the following in sequence:

Step 1: How to clear the GPS before loading new Routes, Waypoints and Tracks :

Warning: This step should only be performed if you are near a computer with installed MapSource and the files available you want to use in Step 2!

  • Hit <PAGE> until to are on the 'Trip Computer' page.

  • Hit <MENU>
  • Select <Reset>
  • <ENTER>

  • Select 'Select All'
  • Enter

  • All checkmarks will be set

  • Select 'Apply'
  • <ENTER>

  • Select 'OK'
  • <ENTER>

Step 2: How to load Routes, Waypoints and Tracks :

  • This is the 300k Brevet 2007 out of Clermont for this example.
  • Download the file from the webpage and open it in MapSource.

  • Select the symbol to transfer to the unit or use the Menu 'Transfer / Send To Device ...'.

  • If your GPS is connected via USB, MapSource should be able to find your unit.
  • Make sure only 'Routes', 'Waypoints' and 'Tracks' are selected.
  • Use the 'Send' button to transfer the maps to your unit.

  • This shows you the status of the transfer.
  • I would recommend to deselect 'Turn off GPS after each transfer'. You only need to do this once. MapSource will remember this setting.
