Scout - Routes

Introduction:

Routes are instruction to the GPS which describe how to get from A (start) to B (destination). If a routable map is uses (Garmin City Select or Garmin City Navigator) and the 'Follow Road' option is used the GPS will provide turn by turn directions following roads.
If the maps are not autoroutable or the 'Off Road' options is used, the route will follow just straight lines from A to B and any other point that has been selected in between. It is similiar to an airplane flying a straight lines between cities.

With a practical example our 300k Brevet we ride on roads but ride also on trails. The trails are not part of the map software and therefore autorouting cannot be used. Starting with the 2007 series I create routes where you can follow a straight line using the 'Off Road' option. Even so this is not exact, most trails in Florida a fairly straight and as closer you are getting to your exit point of the trail as more accurate the remaining mileage will be.
