Scout - while riding/driving

 

Introduction:

This will show you what you will see turning driving / riding. You can switch from page to page by using the <PAGE> key to go forward a page or the <QUIT> to go backwards a page. The main page you will use will the 'Map' page. With one key press on <PAGE> you will be on the 'Trip Computer' page. <QUIT> brings you back to the 'Map' page.

 

Example using a Brevet bicycle ride :

Map page

  • It shows the current map, the route and the direction you are riding. The GPS will zoom in (show more detail) as closer you get to the next turn.
  • 'Dist To Next' will show the the distance to the next turn. If you a have x series it might only show the distance to the next 'Via Point'. A 'Via Point' is a point we had to make on the map so that the GPS will now which road to take.
  • 'ETA At Dest' will show you the estimated time you arrive at the next control. If this is a segment it will show the estimated time you will end this segment (e.g. leave the trail).

Trip Computer page

This shows:

  • Distance to Destination (usually next control or end of segment)
  • Odometer: Total mileage
  • Moving Time and Moving Average
  • Stopped Time and Overall Average (this is very usefull for the Randonneur to control the time at controls and the overall average including breaks.
  • Current Elevation
  • Current Time of Day

Compass page

This shows:

  • Current Speed
  • Max. Speed
  • Sunrise in this area
  • Sunset in this area
  • The direction you need to head to follow your route

Altimeter page

  • This show the current elevation, total ascent, max. elevation and current elevation

Satellite page

  • This shows you how many satellites and in which strength you are receiving
  • It also will show you your current GPS position

Active Route page

  • This shows you turn by turn direction with estimated times you are reaching a turn. You can scroll up and down the list.

Turn Preview page

  • This shows the next upcoming turn in more details

Turn Preview pop-up

  • Once you get closer to the turn, it doesn't matter which page your are on, this pop up screen will come up for a few seconds with an accoustic signal .
  • Once you get close to the turn (approx. 100 - 300 ft) you will get another accoustic signal and the pop screen comes up and stays on until the turn is completed.
